New trains for Shatin to Central Link

The Shatin to Central Link will connect numerous existing railway lines, such as connecting the former Ma On Shan Line and the existing West Rail Line to form the Tuen Ma Line, while the existing East Rail Line will link up the new-built Hung Hom to Admiralty Section and extend across the harbour to Hong Kong Island.

New trains are purchased for the operation of the Tuen Ma Line and East Rail Line.

  • Tuen Ma Line


    New train and new train cars were purchased for the operation of Tuen Ma Line. All sets of new trains were delivered to Hong Kong by November 2018. Some of the existing trains cars on the West Rail Line, East Rail Line and former Ma On Shan Line are also being modified to form the 8-car trains fleet for the Tuen Ma Line.

  • 8-car trains enter service in advance for West Rail Line and Former Ma On Shan Line


    As part of the Tuen Ma Line, all former 4-car Ma On Shan Line trains and 7-car West Rail Line trains have already been upgraded and converted to 8-car trains respectively. It has further enhanced train service and bring additional capacity.

  • East Rail Line


    To facilitate the East Rail Line extension to Admiralty Station and to accommodate the space constraints of the new platform layouts on Hong Kong Island, the East Rail Line will operate in 9-car trains. 37 sets of new 9-car trains are being delivered to Hong Kong progressively. Stringent and holistic testing of the delivered new trains is underway.


    The new trains on the East Rail Line are being delivered to Hong Kong progressively.
