Tuen Ma Line Phased Opening /

Phased Opening Arrangement

Phased Opening Arrangement

  • Apart from Tai Wai Station and Hung Hom Station, other Tuen Ma Line stations are built without design assumption for trains to turnaround. These stations are therefore inadequate as temporary terminal stations.
  • With modification of the signalling system, trains can turnaround at Kai Tak Station via the crossover track in between Diamond Hill Station and Kai Tak Station.
  • Benefits
    • Diverts passengers to use the new rail link, relieving congestion on the critical link of Tai Wai to Kowloon Tong section
    • Journey time* between Tai Wai and Diamond Hill stations will be reduced significantly from 17 minutes to about 8 minutes

  • * The journey time is an estimate of the time it should take to travel from the originating to the destination station (platform to platform) if the shortest route is taken and may take into account waiting time, in-train and interchange times as well as other information and assumptions.

Technical limitations for phased opening to other stations

  • To Kwa Wan/ Sung Wong Toi Stations are built without tracks for trains to turnaround. If running the train on a shuttle basis on a single platform, train frequency for that section would be at about 10-minute intervals.
  • Ho Man Tin Station’s main signalling system equipment is located within the same zone as Hung Hom Station. In view of the planned works for the suitable measures to be implemented in Hung Hom Station, phased opening to Ho Man Tin Station is not feasible.
