New trains for SCL

The SCL will connect existing railway lines to form two strategic railway corridors, namely “East West Corridor” (EWC) and “North South Corridor” (NSC). The existing Ma On Shan Line (MOL) will link up the Tai Wai to Hung Hom Section of the SCL and the existing West Rail Line (WRL) to form the EWC. The NSC will extend the existing East Rail Line to Hong Kong Island via Hung Hom.

New trains are purchased for the future operation of EWC and NSC. New trains for both EWC and NSC are being delivered to Hong Kong in batches.

The new NSC train are being delivered to Hong Kong in batches since mid-September 2015.

New train and new train cars are purchased for the operation of EWC. The new train cars and new trains are being delivered to Hong Kong since September 2015 and June 2016 respectively.

  • New Train Features

Both EWC and NSC new trains are equipped with new design features including dynamic route map and gangway end display system.

  • Train Test

A series of stringent and integrated tests are being carried out for the new trains. Following the static test in the depots, dynamic tests will be conducted at existing railway tracks. Dynamic tests of EWC trains commenced on existing West Rail Line since September 2015 while dynamic tests of NSC trains also commenced on existing East Rail Line since December 2015.

  • First 8-car train to put into service on West Rail Line

The first 8-car train has been in service on West Rail Line (WRL) since 2 January 2016. The 28 trains now serving the WRL will be converted to 8-car train one by one in a 30-month programme. During the period, both 7-car and 8-car trains will operate on the WRL. A series of new arrangements will be in place along the WRL stations to provide enhanced information to passengers.

    Tips for passengers:

    Step 1:
Pay attention to the Platform Information Display System – with the number of cars in each of the next arriving trains being shown to direct customers to relevant waiting zones.

    Step 2:
Pay attention to the colour signage on the floor and platform screen doors - the train doors and waiting zone for 7-cars trains remain unchanged with signage in pink. Signage for the new 8th car is marked in green.

Please refer to Press Release for details

  • Ma On Shan Line 8-car trains enter service

Starting from 15 January 2017, the existing 15 4-car trains on the MOL have been progressively converted into 8-car trains to further enhance train service and bring additional capacity. The new trains have dynamic route maps and gangway displays which provide more information for passengers during their journeys.

The MOL 8-car trains feature dynamic route maps and gangway displays to provide passengers with more information during their journeys.

During the mixed-fleet operations, coloured labels in brown or green are being posted on the Automatic Platform Gates or platform floor to guide passengers for easy boarding.
